How do I get more Google reviews for my business?
Ask every customer right after the job, and send them a direct link that opens your Google review box in one tap.
The six steps
Most happy customers would leave a review. They just never get around to it. Every step here makes it quicker for them.
Get your review link
Open your Google Business Profile and look for the option to ask for reviews. Google gives you a short link that opens the review box for your business. Save it somewhere you can copy it fast.
Ask every customer, right after the job
The best time to ask is when the work is done and the customer is pleased. Ask in person, then send the link the same day while the job is still fresh in their mind.
Send the link, not directions
Do not tell people to search for you and find the reviews section. Every extra step loses someone. A text or email with the link in it turns the ask into one tap.
Put a scan code where customers see it
A printed card with a scan code that opens your review page works at the counter, on an invoice, or left behind after a visit. The customer points their phone at it and the review box opens.
Keep the ask short and plain
Thank them by name, say a review helps other people find you, and give them the link. That is all it needs. A long message is easy to put off and forget.
Reply to every review
Thank people for good reviews and answer bad ones calmly. Customers read your replies, and a business that answers looks like a business that cares.
Three things Google does not allow
Breaking these can get reviews removed, so it is worth knowing them before you start.
- Do not pay for reviews
- Google does not allow offering a discount, a gift or money in exchange for a review. Reviews that break this rule can be removed.
- Do not ask only the happy customers
- Asking everyone is fine. Screening people first and sending only the happy ones to Google is against its rules.
- Do not write your own
- Reviews from you, your staff or your family, or bought from a service, break Google rules and can put your listing at risk.
Common questions
How do I get more Google reviews for my business?
Ask every customer right after the job, and send them a direct link that opens your Google review box. The fewer steps it takes, the more people follow through.
Where do I find my Google review link?
In your Google Business Profile. Sign in, open your listing, and look for the option to ask for reviews or share a review form. It gives you a link you can copy and send.
Can I offer a discount for a review?
No. Google does not allow rewards in exchange for reviews. You can ask, remind and make it easy, but you cannot pay or trade for one.
What should I say when I ask for a review?
Keep it short. Thank the customer by name, say a review helps other people find you, and include the link. One or two sentences is enough.
Should I reply to my reviews?
Yes, all of them. A quick thank you for good reviews, and a calm, helpful answer for bad ones. People who are deciding whether to call you read those replies.
Can someone set this up for me?
Yes. Our review kit is $99. You get a printed-card design with a scan code that opens your review page, a short link that does the same thing, ready-made messages for asking customers, and reply templates for the reviews you get.
